Summary

When Shopify opened its door to third-party app developers by making the Shopify API and the Shopify App Store available, things have never been the same. It’s that historic day on June 2, 2009 that changed this e-commerce giant’s destiny, a move that catapulted this online business giant to the top. Things have never been the same since then and growth has become a normal process not just for Shopify but also for the merchants who chose to use it in bringing their online venture forward.

Apps have been playing a big part in the success of many Shopify stores. From adding extra pages that are meant to increase conversion to turning loyal customers into efficient brand ambassadors, there are simply a lot of apps out there that are very useful, you won’t achieve the milestones your store has gone through without them. But in the process of choosing the best app for a particular purpose, you will surely try different ones from a variety of brands and developers.

That is why it is important that you know how to do advanced search within the Shopify app store itself. It is true that Googling the name of the app is going to be an easier road to take but being able to find it from the App Store will have several benefits. Not only would you find the exact app itself but you will also get some app recommendations from Shopify. That’s why we’re going to talk about the process in and even more in this article so just read on so you can learn how you can find your way within the Shopify App Store.

Finding the Apps That You Need

Of the many apps in the Shopify App Store for every category that’s there is, finding the exact one that you need in bringing your store forward is going to be a challenge especially if you don’t have a name in mind yet. So how exactly will you do app search? Here’s a simple guide for you to follow.

Step 1: Open Your Shopify store backend and head to the Apps section. This is the place where we’ll focus first as we look into every menu, button, and tab that can be found in this section and learn what each one is used for.

On the top-right portion of the Apps page, you will find 2 buttons that are labeled “Develop apps” and “Customize your store”. The former will obviously be the place for anyone who has the skills in app development and advanced web development. This is where you can create apps that can run within the Shopify platform. The latter is where you’re going to land after clicking the “App” menu from the left side portion as shown above. This is where you will find apps under different categories which you can use to improve your store’s performance.

Just below those buttons right at the center section are 4 other tabs that are labeled “Recommended”, “Get customers”, “Find products”, and “Stand out”. These are categories which you can go to depending on what kind of app you are looking for. But there’s a limited number of apps being displayed here but don’t worry, there are still a lot more for you to choose from.

To view more apps and open the Shopify App Store, you will simply need to go to the bottom-left portion of the Apps section and you will find a button that is labeled “View more apps in this collection”.

This is the last button from this page that we’re going to explore as clicking it will already lead to a new page which will take you to the Shopify App Store.

Step 2: On this second step, you will need to do some Googling and of course, using the Search input box that is found on the Shopify App Store page. Google will help you sort through the most useful and the most effective apps that you need in order to achieve a specific goal for your shop. For instance, if you are trying to improve in customer acquisition and retention then you will need an ambassador affiliate app which works with less supervision. To find one, you can type in “affiliate marketing ambassador” as shown below.

Google will help you find a name for a specific app which created a lot of buzz over several online forums discussing about certain Shopify stuff like marketing, customer management, customer support, etc. but it is going to be the search tool within the Shopify App Store that will help you find the exact app itself. You can also use Google search but only when you already have the exact name of the app since one of the search results will lead you to the Shopify App Store page for the app itself.

How to Uninstall an App

Looking for the best app will surely involve some time for testing and a lot of trial and errors. That is why you also need to learn how to uninstall an app from your Shopify store in order to make way for new ones to be tested and the final one to be installed. Here are the steps involved in uninstalling an app from your Shopify Store.

Step 1: Login to your Shopify store’s backend and head to the “Apps” section. Make sure that you know the name of the app that you want to uninstall and it should have already been installed to your Shopify store already, thoroughly tested, and failed to meet your expectations.

In this section, you will now find a section that is labeled as “Installed apps” and under it, you should be able to find the app that you have already installed to your Shopify store.

Step 2: From the “Installed apps” section, find the app that you want to uninstall or remove from your shop. Removing it will take a very few steps and it is as simple as going to the right portion of the app that you want to uninstall and click on the “Delete” link as shown below.

After hitting the “Delete” link, a pop-up prompt will appear asking you to provide feedback. In here, you can choose to leave a reason why you’re going to delete the app from your store or not since it is optional. After doing so, simply click the “Delete” button that is found at the bottom-right portion of the prompt.

Shopify will then send a request to the app developer to delete any customer data that has been stored in the app when you installed it within 48 hours unless you install it again before that time expires. This is how you delete an app from your Shopify store. Once the app is deleted, you should be able to see a message that says “You successfully deleted [App name]” on the top portion of the Apps section as you can see below.
